My LDT300x course on Instructional Design and Technology: Digital Media, New Tools and Technology is going reaaaally well!! While last week we got a bird's eye view of the different kinds of Web 2.0 digital technology tools that are available to educators today to use as part of their teaching and assessment strategies, this week we dived into open source media, freeware and shareware.
As part of this week's activity, we were asked to create a video using any screen recording software of our choice (preferably open-source), and to post it on Youtube.
For my activity, I chose to record my video using an online screen recording software called Screencast-o-matic. For the topic of my video, I chose to review the Wix Website Builder (it is the one I am using right now, actually).
I started using the Wix Website Builder a few weeks ago, when I had to create an Online Portfolio for my LDT100x course. I created this very website using this Wix, and I can tell you that I am very happy indeed!
Here are the top reasons why I am immensely satisfied with Wix:
1. Easy to use: Being an amateur website creator, I needed a really flexible website builder, and found that Wix was perfect for my requirements. It is amazingly easy to work with and actually made website building a lot of fun for me!
2. Tons of Amazing Templates: The template library on Wix has a plethora of amazing templates to choose from. All you have to do is choose the template, replace its components with your contents, and publish!
3. Flexibility: The Wix Website editor is, by far, the most flexible website editor I have worked with. You can move around, resize, add and remove components as per your fancy, and your published website works flawlessly.
4. Smartphone-compatible websites: As you build your website, Wix automatically optimizes it for viewing on smartphones, and the creator (i.e., you) does not even have to think about it!
Here is my video review of the Wix website, created using the Screencast-o-matic website.
Hope you all like it!
