COGNITIVISM OR CONNECTIVISM
A COMPARISON BETWEEN COGNITIVISM AND CONNECTIVISM
LEARNING SCENARIO EXAMPLES
Here, I would like to cite the example of my learning experience from high school/college, that I talked about here.
I think my personal learning experience from my college days is a good example of cognitivism. This is because the teacher I described in this particular case used to organize and explain information to us in such a way that learners were able to relate it to their previous knowledge, make connections and, as a result, understand it and store it in their long-term memory. My teacher used to incorporate visual tools such as T-charts and mind maps that further helped us understand the concepts involved and retain them for a long time after learning.
COGNITIVISM
CONNECTIVISM
Here, I would like to cite the example of my learning experience from a professional setting, that I talked about here.
I think my personal learning experience from my professional/formal (non-school) setting is a good example of connectivism. In this instance, I had a requirement to learn about various effective classroom teaching strategies that could be used in the designing of lesson plans for my office project. In order to learn about this, I poured over numerous websites, blogs, articles, videos and discussion forums. I found pieces of information from different parts of the internet, and tried to link them together (in my mind) to acquire information.
